Are Needle Exchange Programs working? Does giving an addict sterile needles help them quit? Does Harm reduction work?
Aaron Huey, founder of Firemountain Residential Treatment Programs, and Patty Brezovar discuss the ins and outs of needle exchanges, Aids, Hep C, and the Opioid Crisis. Patty faces the criticism and doubt with grace and compassion, the same way she supports addicts who suffer.
For the past 18 years, Patty has worked at Boulder County Public Health, as a harm reductionist in the Works Program, a syringe access program serving people who inject drugs. Beside the participants of the Works Program, she works with inmates in the local jail, the general public, law enforcement and other community partners to educate on how to reduce overdose and other harms associated with drug use, and to prevent and eliminate the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C. She is passionate about interfacing with people who are often shamed and stigmatized for drug use.

Aaron Huey of Fire Mountain Residential Treatment Center and the amazing people at Y.E.S., Your Empowered Sexuality talk about the current state of Sex Ed, rape culture, Consent Education and how to talk to your kids about sex.
Rebecca is a co-founder and workshop leader for Your Empowered Sexuality. She was inspired to pursue sexuality work through YES after realizing the lack of current and inclusive sex-ed she and her peers had received when they were in high-school. She has facilitated workshops for students of all ages, from pre-k into late adulthood, which covered topics such as “Body Parts & Boundaries,” “How to talk to your teens about sex,” “Diversity and Identity,” and a variety of consent workshops. Rebecca has been quoted in Vice as well as other local and national publications on her work with YES and her advice regarding coercion, consent and sexuality.
Isy Abraham-Raveson, one of the co-founders of YES!, is a Philadelphia preschool teacher and sexuality educator. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in sexuality education at Widener University. In addition to her work with YES!, she facilitates trainings for parents on how to talk to their children about sexuality at a variety of locations, including the Trans Health Conference and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Recently, she facilitated a workshop about body image and thin privilege at Haverford College. She has been quoted in Teen Vogue as an expert on consent and her workshops for Kindergarteners have been featured in national publications. For Isy, sexuality education is social justice; she does this work because every child has the right to grow up with respect, bodily autonomy, high self-esteem, and accurate information.

What Changes When A Parents “Adolescent Development” Primer
Thursday Jul 12, 2018
Thursday Jul 12, 2018
The expectation that teens should act a certain way, when they may not even be developmentally capable of doing it is a set up for failure! How do you know what to expect from a teen and what is the difference between “willingness and capability”?
Aaron Huey, Co-Founder, and President of Firemountain Residential Treatment Center has been working with children, teens, and parents for over 18 years. After ten years directing camps and empowerment programs around the world, Aaron opened Fire Mountain because he wanted to work with kids and families on a deeper level. Over the first few years of running programs like Teen Rites of Passage The Warrior Phoenix Challenge, and numerous cries for help from parents, Aaron realized the need to turn his efforts towards teens struggling with drugs, alcohol and the behaviors and issues related to addiction. An addict in recovery since 2000, he felt a calling to put together an expert team and open Fire Mountain. His mission is to awaken confidence and leadership. “It‘s not about being better, it‘s about giving up the struggle to be different from who you are.”
Aaron’s formal educational background is in acting. He graduated from the top acting school in the US, The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1990. His skills in comedy and drama make him an influential speaker and presenter, and a favorite among the kids. His confidence, compassion, and humor set the tone for deep healing, and fun.
Aaron is also trained as an EMT, a Wilderness Survival Instructor and Martial Arts teacher, all of which he weaves into the Fire Mountain RTC curriculum.
