Which Way?

In Which Way?... Mother and daughter tell parallel stories about trauma and its impact on the generations that follow. Jann Simmons’ story is a heart-wrenching account of an orphaned child who suffered brutality at the hands of her mother, as well as many others. As an adult, Jann’s mind was closed to the horrors of her abuse, betrayal, and abandonment until the day they all came flooding back to her conscious mind. That awareness began a 40-year transformation from a passive victim to resilient warrior.
As a young teen, Shari struggled to make sense of her mother’s pain, but as a career mental-health therapist, she began to understand her mother’s journey and learn how trauma affects the brain. She offers strategies in this book for those suffering from past or present trauma or for those who love someone who is suffering. Both women tell their stories and drive home the fact that the choices we make can lead to self-hatred and resentment or to a life of courage, healing and beauty.
Which Way? is an unforgettable story of love and transformation that will resonate with mothers, daughters, trauma survivors, those who love them and those who’ve made a career out of helping them heal.

Join Aaron Huey on Beyond Risk and Back for Part III of talking honestly about sexual harassment. Have you even heard the term "consent education"? Until men have consent education, we HAVE to teach women how to fight off an attacker. There are many self defense classes our there, but do these classes really work?
Maia and Aaron talk to Martha Thompson, Aaron Christensen, and Robert about women's model mugging and rape defense classes. You don't want to miss this educational show about how to be prepared daily to protect yourself.
Martha Thompson has been teaching self-defense since 1988. She is an IMPACT Chicago Instructor, Instructor Trainer, and Administrative Team Co-Leader. Martha is also a National Women’s Martial Arts Federation (NWMAF) Certified Self-Defense Instructor and holds a 5th degree black belt in Seido karate. Being Cool With Dyslexia
Thursday Aug 23, 2018
Thursday Aug 23, 2018
Host of Beyond Risk and Back and founder of www.firemountainprograms.com, Aaron Huey, interviews Chester Simmons, a young man that learned how to overcome dyslexia and ADD. Tune in to hear an amazing perspective for parents:
What is it like to have Dyslexia?
Do you grow out of it?
How does it affect ones social life?
What helps?
Aaron and Chester talk about dyslexia from the perspective of learning from someone who grew up and continues to evolve while at the same time “being cool with it”.
Chester lived in the Denver Area most of his life. He has been aware of his Dyslexia and ADD since the summer before the 4ht grade. He was reluctant to receive the help that he needed because at times it made him feel different than his peers. His reluctance to receive help definitely made school a struggle. When Chester was in college he captained the CU Denver Club Soccer Team, and was a student officer. In sports he found an outlet to shine, away from the struggles of school he was able to focus and excel at what he did. He dedicated himself at that time to help youth who struggle with school. He now runs an after school program that helps youths in the correctional system stay out of trouble during high risk hours.
